Federal parliamentary breakfast 
On Tuesday 2nd June 2009, 30 female parliamentarians pledged to support the fight against heart disease and stroke. Attending the Heart Foundation's GRFW Parliamentary Breakfast, female MPs and senators from all sides of politics unite in committing to help reduce premature death and suffering from CVD and agree to raise awareness among women in their constituencies. Speaking at the breakfast, Minister for Health and Ageing, Nicola Roxon MP, outlined the importance of drawing attention to heart disease as the biggest killer of Australian women. She was joined by Shadow Minister for Ageing, Margaret May MP, and Australian Greens health spokesperson, Senator Rachel Siewert, in highlighting the need for women to have a greater understanding of their risk of the disease. NSW parliamentary breakfast
On Thursday 4th June 2009 NSW MPs and MLCs from all sides of politics attended a Go Red for Women Parliamentary Breakfast hosted jointly by the Minister for Women, Verity Firth MP and the Minister for Science and Medical Research, Jodi Mckay MP.  Opposition spokesperson on Women's Affairs Pru Goward spoke of the reluctance many women to consider their own needs often putting the needs of others in their family first and she and her parliamentary colleagues commended the Heart foundation for this initiative and pledging to promote heart disease awareness in any way they can among women in their constituencies. Going Red in Victoria's Parliament
On Thursday 4 June Heart Foundation (Victoria) held a lunch-time briefing for members of the Victorian Parliament focusing on 'Women and Heart Disease'. The briefing was attended by 21 MPs with representation from both sides of politics. Helen Kapalos, Ten News was MC for the event which also featured a welcome from the Minister for Health, Daniel Andrews and presentations by Dr Jennifer Johns (President, Heart Foundation Victoria) and Leonie Fryar, Heart Foundation volunteer. Dr Johns' presentation focused on the key Go Red for Women campaign messages while Leonie Fryar gave a personal account of her experience of surviving a heart attack at the age of 39. CVH Director Kellie-Ann Jolly concluded the briefing by encouraging MPs to spread the day's message among their constituents. Click here to find out what other events are happening in Victoria.

Queensland 3 day GRFW campaign in Parliament house
Queensland politicans, the City Mayor and city councillors all agreed to dress red from the 2-5 June 2009 and Parliament House and City Hall glowed red every evening as part of this 3 day event.  The Queensland Premier, Anna Bligh, demonstrated her up to the minute communication skills by twittering her support of  the Go Red for Women campaign.
